(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana lawmakers have reached halftime in this year’s legislative session, which has been marked more by plans deferred and legislation killed than major accomplishments.
Brian Slodysko of the Associated Press says that's not entirely a surprise. Majority GOP leaders previously said that, for the first time in years, they did not have a major legislative goal to achieve.
Some measures that are advancing are intended to clean up unanticipated problems. That includes a stopgap school funding measure and clarifications to the state's hemp law.
Meanwhile, Republicans have sought to steer clear of divisive issues as they head into November elections.
