(DEKALB CO.) - The Indiana State Police is conducting an investigation following the discovery of human skeletal remains which were located Saturday afternoon in a wooded area west of C&A Tool Engineering in the city of Auburn.
The investigation which is being conducted by Detective David Poe has preliminarily indicated that between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, the skeletal remains of an unknown person were located by someone who was walking in the wooded area.
Due to the level of decomposition, immediate identification of the person was not possible. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, February 19th to not only help determine manner and cause of death, but also in an effort to help determine the person's identity.
At this time, there is no outward indication of foul play, but information gathered from the autopsy could provide necessary leads for investigators to help make a positive determination of how, when and why that person came to be where the discovery was made.
This is on ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time. The Auburn Police Department, the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office and the DeKalb County Coroner's Office are assisting Poe with this investigation.
