(INDIANAPOLIS) - A study from the Center for Disease Control says Indiana binge drinkers consume about 400-million binge drinks per year.
Dr. Robert Brewer of the CDC says binge drinking is not only risks your health, but is also a public health and safety risk.
The CDC defines binge drinking as four or more drinks consumed in a short period for women, and for men, five or more drinks consumed in one sitting.
The study says that nearly 17 percent of those surveyed reported binge drinking.
The average binge drinker in Indiana consumed about 540 binge drinks in just one year.
Brewer says residents can fight the epidemic by supporting higher alcohol taxes and restrictions on alcohol availability.
The health guidelines for consuming alcohol is one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men.
