(INDIANAPOLIS) - Monday, April 2, kicks off National Public Health Week, an annual observance in which communities recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving the health of Indiana and the nation. This year’s theme is “Changing our Future Together.”
The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) will be marking the occasion with a public health open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, in the atrium of the Indiana Government Center South in downtown Indianapolis. ISDH staff will discuss the work being done to protect Hoosiers' health and provide interactive demonstrations to promote good health in Indiana.
The ISDH Vital Records Division will be on hand so that individuals can purchase copies of birth or death certificates. Parents will be able to register their child's immunization record with MyVaxIndiana. In addition, those attending will be able to tour the Emergency Preparedness Mobile Hospital and Mobile Command Center and see demonstrations of the new Liv pregnancy mobile application and the Women, Infants and Children app.
Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play. ISDH, along with its local partners, works daily to protect Hoosiers from disease and educate them about ways to improve their health. ISDH also responds to natural disasters, such as recent flooding, to ensure that Hoosiers are protected from illnesses that can result from such incidents.
