(EVANSVILLE) - A 14-year-old southwestern Indiana girl recently received a jury summons questionnaire in error.
The Courier & Press reports that Evansville eighth-grader Keely Elsner recently received the summons from Vanderburgh Circuit Court even though she's four years too young to serve on an Indiana jury.
County and state officials say Elsner received the noticed due to "a glitch in the system."
State software pulls names for jury selection from voter registration rolls, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Revenue. Elsner is featured on two of the lists and somehow her date of birth was overlooked.
Elsner says she was initially excited by the letter and "thought it was pretty cool."
Her parents say they used the experience to teach Elsner about the responsibility of sitting on a jury.
