(UNDATED) - Indiana Conservation Officers of Operational District 8 recently added two new officers to bolster patrol efforts. Logan Carter has been assigned to Clark County, while fellow academy classmate, Lucas Patterson, has been assigned to Perry County.
Logan Carter, 23, of Harrison County, graduated from South Central High School before earning a bachelor's degree in Biology at Indiana University Southeast. He is the son of Mike and Melanie Carter, and currently resides in Otisco, Indiana.
Lucas Patterson, 23, of Warrick County, graduated from Boonville High School, and went on to earn an associate's degree in Conservation Law Enforcement from Vincennes University. He is the son of Brian and Becky Thomas and John and Paige Patterson. Lucas currently resides in Tell City, Indiana.
Both officers completed the Indiana Conservation Officers' Core Values Training, a rigorous 4-week paramilitary program consisting of physical training and teambuilding exercises designed to prepare trainees for solo patrol in remote areas. They then completed the 15-week Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, followed by another 10 weeks of Indiana Conservation Officers' Essentials Training.
After completing academy training, all new officers were required to patrol at least 90 shifts with veteran conservation officers and successfully complete their Field Training program.
Indiana Conservation Officers are fully sworn law enforcement officers, and in addition to enforcing all state laws, focus their efforts on natural resource law enforcement. For more information on Indiana Conservation Officer career opportunities, visit https://secure.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/2760.htm.
