(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Wednesday, Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, was selected by Speaker Paul Ryan to serve on the House-Senate conference committee for the Fiscal Year 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on the bicameral conference committee as we consider this historic piece of legislation that boosts funding for our armed forces and reverses the Obama-era cuts to our military," said Banks. "As we hash out the differences between the House and Senate versions, my top priorities are rebuilding our military, streamlining processes at the DOD, and countering strategic competition with nations like Russia, China and Iran."

"Congressman Banks has been instrumental in our efforts to rebuild the military over the past two years because he understands the unique needs of our armed forces," said House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry. "He has worked tirelessly to ensure our service members are equipped with the training, resources and tools needed to defend our nation from both current and future threats."

Background
The NDAA is the single most important legislative product the Armed Service Committee passes each year. For 58 years, the House and Senate have used a conference committee to reconcile their two versions of the bill. The House passed its version of the NDAA in May and the Senate passed its version earlier this month. Once the conference committee agrees on a final package, each chamber will then vote on the legislation before sending it to President Trump's desk.
