(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Eric Holcomb this week signed Savannah’s law which will allow fire departments to offer free vehicle emissions tests to Hoosier drivers.
It goes into effect July 1st.
The law came from the 2015 death of a Ben Davis High School student Savannah Bettis. She was killed in a car crash resulting from the vehicle's malfunctioning exhaust system, which circulated carbon monoxide into the cab.
The gas incapacitated Bettis and her boyfriend, who was driving at the time.
Bettis' boyfriend survived the crash.
