(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series is now accepting applications for its 2018-2019 Class - the 29th since the program’s inception.
Inspired by the leadership of former U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, The Lugar Series has sought to provide a first-class leadership training experience that encourages, mentors and prepares Republican women from across Indiana to seek new levels of personal achievement and public involvement.
"The opportunities for women to serve in public service are limitless, and we need to continue training and supporting Hoosier women committed to participating at every level," says Lugar Series Executive Director Anne Hathaway. "This program has produced quality leaders in elected and appointed offices as well as campaign volunteers and community activists for 28 years, and we hope to recruit Indiana's best and brightest again this year."
The program gives participants unique access to public officials and an effective and diverse statewide political network. Once accepted into the program, the women meet monthly from October to May with community leaders to talk through public policy issues and the process of implementation. One of the highlights of the program is the annual four-day trip to Washington, D.C. every spring where the class members have the opportunity to meet with national leaders, network with other excellence programs around the country, and gather a better understanding of public policy on a national level.
Lugar Series applicants should have demonstrated leadership skills in their fields of work or community service and will be evaluated on the basis of written and oral presentations. Applications are due Wednesday, August 1, 2018, and are available by visiting www.lugarseries.com/apply/ or by calling 317-536-6900.
