(LAKE STATION) - A motorcyclist died early Sunday morning when he lost control of his bike and hit an informational sign on I-80/94.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kenneth Payonk revealed at approximately 4:10 a.m., Sunday, a 2016 Indian motorcycle, driven by Keith Taylor, 58 of Lakeland, Florida, was eastbound on I-80/94 with fellow motorcyclists. They missed their exit for I-65 and planned on exiting at Ripley Street to turn-a-round to go back to I-65.
Taylor was the lead motorcycle when he started to exit to south bound Ripley, cut back across the white line gore area, lost control, went into the grassy area (separating the exit south bound Ripley Street ramp from I-80/94 east bound) and hit an informational sign. This caused Taylor to go air-borne and be ejected off his motorcycle.
Taylor was not wearing a helmet and was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary where he was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma.
Assisting: Master Trooper Lawrence McFarrin, Trooper Nicholas Price, Lake Station EMS, and Double T Towing
