(CARBONDALE, Ill.) - The Noblesville teacher who stopped last month’s shooter at Noblesville West Middle School will be honored as grand marshal at a homecoming event at his college alma mater later this year.
Jason Seaman played football at Southern Illinois University Carbondale and attended the university from 2007 to 2010. "He's not only a hero who protected his students during a May school shooting in Noblesville, IN, but also a Saluki who was a leader on the football field and in the classroom," the school posted on their Facebook page. "A four-year letterman on the defensive line from 2007 to 2010, he won Missouri Valley Conference All-Academic team honors while earning his degree in elementary education from the SIUC College of Education & Human Services."
Seaman was shot three times while tackling a student who opened fire in his science classroom at Noblesville West Middle School on May 25.
One of his students, Ella Whistler, 13, was shot seven times during the incident. Family members say she is improving every day.
The university's homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 20 when they play Indiana State.
