(LAKE CO.) - The Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission is beginning the process of selecting a new superior court judge.
A vacancy on the Lake Superior Court exists because Judge Elizabeth F. Tavitas joined the Court of Appeals of Indiana.
Commission Chairperson and Indiana Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Slaughter announced applications for the position are available at all Clerks offices of the Lake Circuit and Superior Courts. Ten copies of the completed application materials must be submitted to the Secretary of the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission (R. Cordell Funk, 6629 W. Lincoln Hwy, Ste 6, Crown Point, IN 46307) by Monday, September 17 at 4:00 p.m. CDT.
The Commission was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1973. According to Indiana law IC 33-33-45-27 to 33-33-45-42, the Commission is required to submit to the Governor "the three most highly qualified candidates from among all those eligible" for appointment when a vacancy arises.
The Commission will meet sometime between September 24 and October 4 to interview the applicants.
