(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Republican Party yesterday filed a formal ethics complaint with the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Ethics after it was revealed that Democrat Senator Joe Donnelly’s official taxpayer funded office posted muted video of his meeting with Judge Brett Kavanaugh on their official YouTube page, video that could ostensibly be used for political purposes.
Donnelly Campaign Acknowledges Using Video Would Be Illegal - In a statement provided to the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Democrat Donnelly's campaign acknowledged that "even if the campaign or any outside group wanted to use this footage, it would be illegal." Complaint Follows Report That Donnelly Already Skirted Campaign Finance Rules - According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, "Campaigns are not allowed to coordinate directly with outside groups, but candidates have regularly found ways to skirt around the rules." They pointed directly to a Politico story from June that said, "U.S. Senate Democrats, including Donnelly, have been posting specific attacks of their opponents on their campaign websites for outside groups to use."
