(NEW ALBANY) - A public housing complex in southern Indiana has been deemed uninhabitable after a fire shorted out its electrical system.
New Albany Building Commissioner David Brewer announced Tuesday he was issuing a notice to vacate the 16-story Riverview Towers operated by the New Albany Housing Authority. Brewer says the complex will need to pass a full inspection before any occupants will be allowed to move back in.
The News and Tribune reports more than 160 residents were evacuated from the building Monday after the fire and transported to two hotels.
The housing authority is working with residents who need to access their apartments for belongings.
A plumbing leak last week caused a small fire than shorted out almost all of the building's air conditioning units.
