(LAGRANGE CO.) -Two men from New York were arrested yesterday morning by the Indiana State Police on drug-related charges minutes after they finished with a trial at the LaGrange County Courthouse.
According to Trooper Zarek Finley, at approximately 10:00 a.m., he along with Trooper Matthew Henson and LaGrange County Deputy Prosecutor Travis Glick were inside the Superior Courtroom awaiting a trial, when the defendant and his friend walked in, Finley alleges that there was on odor of raw marijuana which was evident after the two walked in.
At approximately 11:55 a.m., following the trial, Finley and LaGrange Police Officer Todd Johnson saw the two men, 18 year old Rayan A. Alrayashi and 19 year old Anad Ibrahim Al-Yafay get into a 2018 Ford Mustang and drive away. Finley and Johnson knew that neither of the men possessed a valid driver's license. Finley stopped the Mustang on eastbound Factory Street near Detroit Street.
As Finley began to speak with the driver, Alrayashi, he smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the Mustang. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a substance believed to be marijuana, another plant like substance believed to be a controlled substance known as "khat" and items of drug paraphernalia.
Both Alrayashi and Al-Yafay were taken into custody and incarcerated in the LaGrange County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
