(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana’s newest federal judge has taken his oath of office.
The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana announced Monday that James R. Sweeney II took his oath of office administered by Chief Judge Jane E. Magnus-Stinson on Monday.
President Donald Trump nominated Sweeney for the judgeship last November and the Senate unanimously confirmed him on Aug. 28.
Sweeney's caseload is drawn from the Indianapolis and Terre Haute divisions of the Southern District.
Sweeney formerly was a partner in the Indianapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, focusing on intellectual property matters.
An Indianapolis native, Sweeney is a former Marine who graduated from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
