(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Arts Commission announced today the 2018 Governor’s Arts Awards program, Friday, October 19, 2018, is officially sold-out. The 7 p.m. (EDT) program will be held at Sweetwater Sound, Inc. Fort Wayne, Indiana.
"First Lady Janet Holcomb and I are thrilled to join Hoosiers in their excitement to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the recipients," Gov. Holcomb said. "Through their contributions to quality-of-life in Indiana and beyond, our 2018 honorees have made a lasting impact."
The awards program will recognize the achievements of philanthropists Gayle and the late Bill Cook, Bloomington, Indiana; the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Art Museum at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana; arts educator and researchers Dr. F. Robert Sabol, Crawfordsville, Indiana; art entrepreneur Rami Sadek & LangLab, South Bend, Indiana; and choreographer, dancer, and author Twyla Tharp, formerly from Portland, Indiana.
In addition to the award recipients, the event will also recognize the accomplishments of Fort Wayne's Addison Agen, 2017 runner-up in the NBC talent competition program The Voice. Agen will receive a special emerging artist award, and perform selections from her forthcoming album as well as a joint performance with the Fort Wayne Voices of Unity Youth Choir.
"With these performances, we knew this year's awards would be very special and generate much public interest," said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. "Through the foresight and efforts of one of our Commissioners, the late Al Rent, we are working with the local TV station PBS39 to record the awards program for later broadcast. In that way, the awards program may well be available to a statewide audience."
The Governor's Arts Awards will be the closing event for the two-day 2018 Indiana Arts Homecoming held at the Arts United Arts Campus in downtown Fort Wayne.
