(ANDERSON) - The son of Anderson’s mayor has resigned from his position as assistant city attorney after pleading guilty to drunk driving charges last month.
The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports that Evan Broderick gave his resignation to Human Resources Director Tom Brown last week and it was accepted.
Police say on Sept. 5, Broderick drove a 2017 Jaguar SUV into a utility pole and a wall at Eighth Street and Raible Avenue. Then they say he drove the damaged SUV a half-mile to a Wendy's restaurant parking lot.
Broderick refused to take a breathalyzer to test his blood-alcohol content and was subjected to a blood test at a hospital. The results of that test have not yet been reported.
Officers say he also threatened to sue them on the night of the arrest.
Broderick was placed on probation for a year and he has to have an alcohol monitor in his car for a year.
