(FORT WAYNE) - Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) today issued the following statement after the Pentagon released details about additional military units that are being sent to the U.S. southern border:
"President Trump continues to take seriously the security of our border. I applaud the administration for proactively taking action. Congress needs to do its part by passing the Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act."
The additional troops will provide logistical support such as medical care and other basic needs for border agents. The troops will not engage in law enforcement but will still retain the right of self-defense. These troops will add to the more than 2,000 National Guardsmen supporting Customs and Border Protection personnel performing similar duties. During the 2018 fiscal year alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection apprehended 521,090 illegal migrants.
