(UNDATED) - November is Diabetes Awareness Month. A really great source of information on all forms of diabetes is the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website that speaks about diabetes, its management and more.
The section on the basics of diabetes includes information on who's at risk, symptoms, prediabetes, Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes. Plus, for those who have symptoms or risk factors, there's information on getting tested. For those who have diabetes, there are tips on monitoring blood sugar levels.
The section about living with diabetes covers different areas, such as education and support, eating well, getting active, preventing complications and staying well during flu season. There's also information on what can often be an overlooked part of living with diabetes: being prepared for an emergency, be it a hurricane, tornado or extreme heat or cold. There are links to information on insulin and drug and equipment advice. The links include information regarding insulin storage and switching between products in an emergency and blood glucose meters and hurricane disasters.
For researchers who are looking for data, statistics and trends in diabetes, the site has national, state and county data for the years 1994-2015, as well as access to the "National Diabetes Statistics Report."
When it comes to Diabetes Awareness Month, the information contained on the CDC diabetes website makes it a great resource for anyone looking for information on the disease.
