(INDIANAPOLIS) - Construction on a new bus rapid transit system (BRT) that will run from Broad Ripple through downtown Indianapolis and to the University of Indianapolis will result in lane closures as early as next week.
Work on the IndyGo Redline will move to the west side of Capitol Ave. with barrels and signage expected to be in place as early as Tuesday, Nov. 13 or Wednesday, Nov. 14. Construction crews are set to arrive on-site by Friday, Nov. 16.
Construction plans include blocking off the westernmost lane(s) of Capitol Ave. to traffic between 18th St. and Washington St. This is intended to give crews the access and flexibility necessary for the project.
The lane closures will restrict on-street parking on both sides of Capitol Ave. The work is expected to continue through the end of the calendar year. Following that, construction will move to the east side of Capitol Ave. and on-street parking on the west side will reopen.
During the coming construction phase, the closed lane will be within the construction work zone making it generally inaccessible to traffic.
The work will not impact vehicular access to the Washington St. Parking Garage, and pedestrian access to all facilities will be maintained throughout construction.
