(BRAZIL) - Veterans of Foreign Wars have allied with Indiana sheriffs this fall to raffle a pickup truck and raise much-needed funds for the new Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch.
Members of the Bussing-Louderback VFW Post in Brazil, Ind., where the Youth Ranch property is located, are coordinating the raffle to help sheriffs and deputies mentor future law enforcement officers, bond with at-risk kids and help young witnesses and victims of crime.
The $45,000 2018 Chevy Silverado is sponsored in-part by Chevrolet and John Jones Auto Group of Corydon, Greensville, Salem and Scottsburg.
Raffle tickets are just $2, three for $5, seven for $10, 15 for $20, 38 for $50 and 80 tickets for $100.
Participating VFW Posts and supporting county sheriff's offices will have limited supplies of tickets. Donors may also send checks to the Indiana Sheriffs' Youth Ranch, Attn: Truck Raffle Volunteers, 5401 S. East St., Suite 117, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
For many years, sheriffs and deputies have hosted local and regional law enforcement camps for Indiana students. The new Indiana Sheriffs' Youth Ranch, now under development in rural West Central Indiana, will be a permanent home for weeklong academies available to middle schoolers from all communities in all participating counties.
Recently, U.S. sheriffs announced they will also join ranks with the Indiana Sheriffs' Youth Ranch to host a National Sheriffs' Association Youth Leadership Institute each year at the 62-acre retreat. Outstanding students from each state will travel to Indiana for high-quality instruction by some of the country's best law enforcement trainers.
Drawing for the raffled Chevy Silverado will be at 12 noon on Dec. 10 at John Jones Auto Group's Police Pursuit Division, 1520 S. Jackson St., in Salem. The lucky winner will be notified by telephone or email and publicized via traditional and social media.
