Clarence Houston Smith – Mitchell
Clarence Houston Smith of Mitchell passed away Thursday afternoon, July 15th at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital at the age of 90. Born in 1919 in Lawrence County to Ray and Leona Smith, he had been married to Jean Blackburn since 1941, was retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Clarence was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 604. He is survived by children, Edward Smith, Linda Gibson, Judy New, Ray Smith, Ralph Smith and Vickie Fisher; as well as several grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Summers. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, July 19th in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post. No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
