Ruth Irene Tatom – Bedford
Ruth Irene Tatom, 92, of Bedford, died at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2011 At White River Lodge.
Born July 4, 1919, in Bedford, she was the daughter of John Norman and Celia P. (Speer) Root. She married Joe Tatom on April 8, 1944 and he proceeded her in death. She retired from Sarkes-Tarzains in Bloomington after 25 years and was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church where she played the piano for years and was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Ludeans Ladies Group and a Key Lady for Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown.
Survivors include a son, Bill Tatom and wife, Jill, of Bedford; two grandchildren, Mark Tatom and wife April, and Melissa Tatom, all of Bloomington; a niece, Norma Smith and husband, Art, of Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandchild, Teresa; a brother Fred root; two stepsisters Marie and Gertie.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 16th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Leatherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday, November 16th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Memorial donations may be made to the Leatherwood Cemetery Association in Ruth’s memory.
