Robert D. Southern – Bedford
Robert D. Southern, 89, of Bedford, passed away at 12:45 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Bloomington.
Born July 1, 1923 in Judah, he was the son of Thomas and Louise (Helton) Southern. He married Mary Leahy on November 21, 1947 and she preceded him in death on September 10, 1999. He was a layout inspector at GM Powertrain and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Gillen Post 33 American Legion. He served on the board of directors for Dunn Memorial Hospital, chaired on the UAW bargaining committee and was president of the Hoosier Hills Credit Union.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Rinne, of Bloomington, Linda Flanders, of Irvine, CA., and Teresa Hamilton, of Bloomington; five sons, J. Eric Southern, of Bedford, M. Anthony Southern, of Bloomington, W. Thomas Southern, of Oxford, OH., C. Matthew Southern, of Carroltown, VA. And Timothy Southern, of Bedford; grandchildren, Megan Southern, Josh Suhrheinrick, Sarah Angel, Elyse Rinne, Triston Southern, Brooke Southern, Heather Southern, Brittney Southern, Nicklaus Southern, Robert Hamilton, Christopher Hamilton, Jordan Flanders, Allie Flanders, Jade Scalione and Josie Southern; six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary and two brothers Wayne and Thomas.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 19th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Heim officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens with military rites accorded by members of the Gillen Post 33. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18th at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Inez J. Morgan – Bedford
Inez J. Morgan, 95, of Bedford, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital.
Born August 15, 1915, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Harlan and Mayme (McCord) East. She first married James E. Burks, who preceded her in death; she then married Charles L. “Bud” Morgan on August 22, 1943 and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1990. She was a homemaker and had worked a variety of jobs in the Bedford- Bloomington area. She was a 1935 graduate of Bedford High School, of the Protestant faith; a member of the Women’s Dept. Club and the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include two daughters, Cecelia and husband Jim Atchinson and Angela and husband Clark Morgan, both of Bedford; eight grandchildren, Dennis Hughes, of Korea, Kimberly Price, of Springville, John Hughes, of Bedford, Stephanie Hughes, of Bedford, Chris Hughes, of Bedford, Nicholas “Charlie” Hughes, of Orleans, Charles P. Morgan, of Bedford and Marnie LaFevor, of Mitchell, 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; one son, in infancy and one great granddaughter in infancy. She was the last of her family.
Funeral services will be on Friday, July 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with David Logan and Maj. Tim Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
