Brian Keith Gilbert – Oolitic
Brian Keith Gilbert, 52, of Oolitic passed away at 7:44 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at University of Louisville Hospital from injuries he sustained at General Motors with his loving family by his side.
Born January 4, 1960 in Bedford, he was the son of Voy and Phyllis (Pace) Gilbert. He graduated in 1978 from Bedford North Lawrence High School where he was a member of the BNL basketball team. He was a machine repairman at GM for 32 years and a member of U.A.W. 440.
Brian is survived by his love and “bestest” friend, Sharon Crane, of 19 years. A son, Jeremy Gilbert and wife Hilary, of Bedford; a daughter, Jacey Gilbert, of Bedford; a step-daughter Sara and husband Brice Templeton, of Bedford; four grandchildren, Jerett and Jaden Gilbert, baby girl Gilbert, Aliza and Haden Templeton; his father, Voy; a brother, Mike Gilbert and wife Laura, Jared Gilbert and wife Melissa, Justin Gilbert, Jordan Boshears, Joshua Harrell and Aaron Harrell; a niece, Lauren Boshears and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis; a brother, Larry and his grandparents, Clyde and Mable Pace and Wallace and Delia Gilbert.
Brian was a loving father and papaw. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family and watching them participate in their activities and just hanging out with them. He and Sharon watched Andy Griffith reruns and loved to vacation in Mayberry, NC. He loved golf with his son, brother, nephews and friends. He was assistant basketball coach at Oolitic Middle School. He coached basketball and baseball for many years at Oolitic Biddy Ball League and the Boys Club.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 27th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Brother Marty Speer officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeremy Gilbert, Johnny Mike Gilbert, Jared Gilbert, Justin Gilbert, Jordan Boshears, Dennis Pace, Josh and Aaron Harrell. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 26th and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, October 27th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Oolitic Festival or favorite children’s charity.
