Phyllis Kirk – Mitchell
Phyllis Kirk, of Mitchell, passed away Tuesday, March 26th.
Arrangements are pending at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Roger Staggs – Bedford
Roger Staggs, 53, passed away at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born November 4, 1959, in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of Douglas A. and Janet (Montieth) Staggs. He had previously been employed at Bedford Recycling and Bedford Logistics.
Survivors include a son, Derek Staggs, Bloomington; mother, Janet Staggs, Bedford; 3 grandchildren; brothers, James Staggs, Oolitic, Doug Staggs, Oolitic, Tom Staggs, Bedford, Bruce “Dibble” Staggs, Bloomington; sisters, Roseanne Suggs, French Lick,
Mary Ann Carmichael, Orleans, Tammy Terrell, Mitchell,
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Bill Staggs, preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 pm to 8 pm Thursday, March 28, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Cremation was chosen.

James Robert “Jim” Williams – Mitchell
James Robert “Jim” Williams, 59, of Mitchell, passed away on March 25, 2013 at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Born on August 12, 1953 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Kenneth C. Williams Jr. and Joanna R. (Hawkins) Williams. Jim married Cyndy Butler on June 4, 1972 at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Silverville. As a young man he was baptized in the Shoals Christian Church. Jim graduated from Shoals High School in 1971, he then took the Purdue University Agriculture Short Course, completing it in 1979. He was presently serving as a board member for Daviess-Martin Rural Telephone Corporation since 1976, Martin County Farm Bureau Inc. and was a former member of the Martin County Farm Bureau Co-Op Board, Martin County 4-H and Martin County Soil and Water Conservation Board. Jim was currently the Superintendent of the Martin County Highway Department and a grain and cattle farmer and loved the White River. Jim took special care of the folks that hunted and fished “his” river.
His memory will be forever cherished by his family including: his parents, Kenneth and Joanna, of Williams; wife, Cyndy, of Mitchell; sons Jeffery and wife Kristi Williams, of Mitchell, James Kurtis and wife Amber Williams, of Mitchell; grandchildren, Tyler Jack, Kelton Dean, Kaylea Renea, Ryan Don and Madison Danielle; sister Peggy Sue and Lowell Wildman, of Shoals; brothers, Kenneth Curtis “Butch” Williams and Zelbert Lee Williams, both of Williams; niece Lorie Sue Canada, of Bloomington, several adopted “river kids” and many friends.
Friends may call from 3 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, March28 at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Silverville.
Expressions of sympathy are asked to be made to the Martin County 4-H. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jerry L. Poole – Oolitic
Jerry L. Poole, 69, of Oolitic, died Monday, March 25, 2013 at I.U. Health Bedford Hospital.
Born July 15, 1943, he was the son of Earl D. Poole, Hazel (Mason) Stephens and step-mother, Katie Poole. He married Emma L Wilson on October 30, 1961 and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2007. He was a member of the Williams Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Hazel Stephens; his step-father, Howard Stephens; a son, Kevin Poole and wife, Pam of Bedford; a daughter, Renee Arthur and husband, Roger of East Oolitic; two granddaughters, Kayla Wells of Tennessee and Emilee Arthur at home; five step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; a brother, James (Angie) Poole; a half-brother, William (Jan) Stephens of Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Gloria Poole; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; step-mother, Katie Poole; his wife, Emma; two brothers, Allen and Kenny; two step great grandchildren; two nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Friday, March 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Bro. Perry Tom East officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the hour of service on Friday, March 29th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
