Hubert Martin Barnett – Springville
Hubert Martin Barnett, 84, of Springville, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born July 28, 1928 in Norman Station, IN, he was the son of Charles E. and Nellie (James) Barnett. He married L. Jean Graves on November 6, 1948 and she preceded him in death. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1944 and later the U.S. Army serving during WW II. Following his discharge in 1948, he worked in the plumbing and heating business and retired from NAD Crane. He attended the Methodist Church and was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis and the Murat Shrine of Indianapolis. He enjoyed golf and fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Oliver and husband, Jim, Geri Embree and husband, Pat, all of Springville; four grandchildren, Todd Oliver and wife, Kelly of Panama City Beach, FL, Patrick Embree and wife, Regina of Springville, Cristopher Embree of Omaha, NE, Brandi Wright and husband, Brandon of Bedford; ten great grandchildren, Patrick Embree, III, Aaron Embree, Nathan Embree, Evan Day, Koty Embree, Maddie Embree, Ashton Embree, Brycen Wright, Mallory Wright and Zane Oliver; one sister, Jane Hartman and husband, Ed of Twin Falls, ID.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters, Penny Jean and Rebecca Nell Barnett (both in infancy); three brothers, Charles, Ralph and Howard Barnett; three sisters, Alice Brown, Gertrude Adams and Edith Delaney.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Friday, June 14 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Jack Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Chapter 2. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, June 13 at the Day & Carter Motuary with Masonic Rites conducted at 7 p.m.

Ada Laverne (Sowders) Bailey – Heltonville
Ada Laverne (Sowders) Bailey, 88, of Heltonville, died at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bloomington Hospital.
She was born May 20, 1925, in Heltonville to Everett and Truly (Fender) Sowder. On February 6, 1945 she married Charles Lee Bailey and he preceded her in death. She retired from NAD Crane and was a member of the Heltonville Methodist Church, the South Central Association for the Visually Impaired and the American Council of the Blind of Indiana.
She is survived by her daughter Vicky Saari, of Heltonville; sons David Bailey and wife Loretta, of Heltonville, George Bailey and wife Julie, of Bedford and Charles Lee Bailey Jr and wife Cathy, of Norman; several grandchildren, step grandchildren; great grandchildren; step great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parent, husband and brothers Leonard, Thomas and Lenville Sowders; sister, Laveida Winegar; grandchild, Frank Fisher and Kyla Bailey.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville and from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Heltonville Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Mundell Cemetery with Brothers Michael Nicholson, Tom Sowders and Ralph Parkhiser officiating.
Morris E. Blackwell – Bedford
Morris E. Blackwell age 85 of Bedford, passed away on Tuesday June 11, 2013 at 2:45 a.m. at IU Health in Bedford.
Morris was born in Lawrence County on August 26, 1928 to Elmer Oren & Barbara Alice (Gwin) Blackwell. He married Ruth Shields in Bloomington on April 21, 2000 and she survives.
Morris worked many jobs through the years including Clark Electric in Bedford, Boeing Airplane Co. in Wichita, Kansas and Seattle, Washington; Mayflower Moving Co.; Edgewood High School and as bus driver at Monroe County Schools and Bloomington Shuttle Company. He was a graduate of Needmore High School in 1946. Morris was an avid carpenter and woodworker.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Blackwell of Bedford; three daughters; Kathy Lois and husband Mike Brinkman of Weaver, Alabama, Theresa Ann and husband Jeff Schunn of Evansville, Patty Jean and husband Larry Bingham of Spencer; one son; Ken D. Blackwell of Ellettsville, one brother; Garreth Blackwell and wife Ann, of Ellettsville; one sister; Barbara Deckard of Brownstown and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one daughter; Janice Elaine Sheppard.
Morris requested to be cremated with no services. Cresthaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
