Donald S. McNeely – Mitchell
Donald S. McNeely, 93, of Mitchell, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born July 27, 1919, in Ludlow, Illinois, he was the son of William H. and Laura (Sullivan) McNeely. He married Dorothy Stroud August 2, 1941, and she preceded him in death September 23, 2005. He retired from the U. S. Post Office with 28 years of service, was a member of the First Baptist Church, and Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1939. Don was a U. S. Navy See Bees veteran of World War II and received two Bronze Stars. He was a past commander and member of American Legion Post No. 250, and a member of the Honor Guard.
Survivos include his daughter, Kathy Bolton and husband, Buddy, Mitchell; sons, William Patrick McNeely and wife, Cathy, Mitchell, Michael McNeely and wife, Joyce, Villa Rica, Georgia;10 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 74 years; brothers, William McNeely and Robert McNeely; and sister, Wilma Chastain.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 17, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Buddy Bolton officiating. Burial will be in Hamer Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
