George “Bud” Quigley – San Leandro, Cal.
George “Bud” Quigley, 76,of San Leandro, Cal., passed away September 27, 2013.
Born November 12, 1936, in Mitchell, he was the son of Rocker and Margaret (Beaver) Quigley. George graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1955, and served as a helicopter pilot in the U. S. Army from 1955-1958.
He had resided in San Leandro since 1963 and was employed at Unocal, retiring with 38 years of service. In addition, he coached high school football in San Leandro and Castro Valley for over 40 years. He was also instrumental in setting up the Pop Warner Football program in San Leandro.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patricia Quigley, San Leandro, California; daughter, Shannon Quigley-Kitchens, Albilene, Texas; sons, Michael Quigley, San Leandro, California; Patrick Quigley, Outlook, Montana; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Mickey and David Quigley.rave
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. He was loved much and will be greatly missed.

Morris E. “Gene” Whalin – Mitchell
Morris E. “Gene” Whalin, 87, of Mitchell passed away at 4:03 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born May 5, 1926, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Christopher and Gladys (Hart) Whalin. He married Martha Taylor July 24, 1954, and she preceded him in death February 1, 2008. Gene had been employed at Carpenter Body Works and retired from Otis Elevator. He was a lifelong musician. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a 50 year member of American Legion Post No. 250. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra and husband Danny Ellis, Mitchell, Christine and husband Rick Blackwell, Mitchell; grandchildren, Lauren and husband Josh Barrett, Lea and husband Todd Gaines, Kyle Blackwell and wife Missy; great grandchildren, Laney Beaty, Mason Gaines, Ericka Gaines, Braydon Blackwell, Bria Blackwell, Brenlee Blackwell, Emily Brewer, Abigail Barrett, Kenzie Barrett, Xavier Barrett, Braxton Barrett, Allie Barrett, Xavien Barrett
His parent; wife; and brother, John Robert “Bob” Whalin, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, at Haverly Funeral Chapel and Cremation with Pastor Dan Garland officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Patricia A. Earl – Mitchell
Patricia A. Earl, of Mitchell, passed away at 3 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, with Keli, Nick, and Morgan at her side.
Born May 16, 1937, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of Cecil and Mellie (Goodson) Hart. She married Jack Lee Earl October 2, 1968, and he preceded her in death February 15, 2013.
She retired from Columbia House in Bloomington, and was a 1955 graduate of Mitchell High School.
Survivors include her daughter, Keli Parker, Mitchell; grandson, Nicholas Walton (Morgan Heldt-Davis), Mitchell; honorary daughter, Rita Shoopman.
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, at Mitchell Cemetery, with Brother Michael Collins officiating. There will be no visitation.
Casketbearers: Nick Walton, Fred Cassidy, Jim Bush, Morgan Heldt-Davis, Steve Miller, and Maggie Taylor.
Haverly Funeral Chapel and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Paul J. Murphy – Bedford
Paul J. Murphy, 84, of Bedford, passed away at 6:20 P.M. on Friday, October 18, 2013, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital, Bedford.
Born April 17, 1929 in Pekin, IL, he was the son of Thomas and Edna (Keller) Murphy.
He married Johanne W. Wheeler on February 3, 1951; she preceded him in death on April 24, 2012.
He worked at General Motors as the supervisor of maintenance and engineering, where he retired in 1986 after forty years of service. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a member of the Elks #826. He was also on the Boys Club Board of Directors. He was a member of the American Legion Gillen Post #33. He was a member of the Bedford Swim Club Foundation. He was a supporter of Indiana University.
Surviving are six sons, Michael (Linda) Murphy, of Bedford; Kevin (Michelle) Murphy, of Evansville; Thomas (Margaret) Murphy, of Danville; Richard (Lisa) Murphy, of Bloomington; Daniel (Moriah) Murphy, of Tallahassee, FL; and Tim (Velvet) Murphy, of Bedford; Two daughters, Karen (Alan) Chase, of Bedford; and Susan (Dan) Moster, of Ft. Wayne; Nineteen grandchildren, Miranda Stull; Alex and Olivia Roll; Kyle (Holly) Murphy; Meghan (Ian) Edington; Lory (Ryan) Wronowicz-Frasher; Matthew Wronowicz; Daniel, Mark, and Emily (Isaiah) Vanderpol; Mallory and Elliot Murphy; Charley and Michael Murphy; Josh, Ivy, and Sarah Murphy; and Katelyn and Anna Moster; Two great granddaughters, Adelyn Murphy and Elise Murphy; and one great grandson, Broderick Paul Frasher.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home.
