E. Maxine Wood – Mitchell
E. Maxine Wood, 90, passed away at 10:32 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born December 24, 1923, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Harry and Ethel (Batchelor) Terry. She married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Wood, Jr. on April 5, 1943. She had been employed at RCA and was a 1943 graduate of Mitchell High School.
Surviving: husband of 70 years, Robert Wood, Jr., Mitchell children, Keith (Brenda)Wood, Mitchell; Kenny Wood, Mitchell; Terry (Rick) Naftzger, Bloomington; grandchildren Monique (Bobby) East; Spencer Luke (Emily) Naftzger, Greenwood; Tisha (Randy) Hitchcox, Bloomington; Judy (Ricky) Schrock, Orleans; Aaron (Carly) Wood, Gainesville, FL; step grandchildren, Ricky Naftzger, Bloomington; Annette (Chris) Roberts, Camby; great grandchildren, Hannah, Dylan, James, Julia, Madilyn, Lee, Payton, Kieran; step great grandchildren, Curran, Madisyn, Amelia.
Her parents; son, Lonnie Dow Wood; and siblings, Mildred Hawk, Virginia Cochran, Chester Terry, Lester Terry, Roy Terry, and Glen Terry, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Allen Burris officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Johnnie Barnes – Bedford
Johnnie Barnes, 73, of Bedford, died at 4:08 pm on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at her residence.
Born April 16, 1940 in Friars Point, MS, she was the daughter of John and Jessie (Bell) Barnes. She retired from General Motors and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Bedford.
Survivors include three sons, Kurt and Kent Barnes both of Bedford, Ivory Barnes of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Bessie Barnes and Maxine Jenkins both St. Louis, MO; a step-sister, Dorothy Blair of Bedford; six step-brothers,
Tommy and Sammy both of Bedford, booker, Rev. Burton and Billy all of Blytheville, AR and Rev. Oliver of Atlanta; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, John Barnes; two sisters, Charlene Thomas and Ruthie May Walton; a brother, Eddie Lee Barnes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am on Saturday, March 15th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 am until the hour of service on Saturday, March 15th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
Pallbearers are: Kurt Barnes, Kent Barnes, Melvin Lilard, Eddie Barnes, Eugene Barnes, Steve Furlow, Clifford Smith and Sammy Furlow.

Amber Smrz – Bedford
Amber Smrz, 26, of Bedford and Indianapolis, died at 5 pm on Sunday, March 2, 2014 in Jackson, KY.
Born February 25, 1988 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Robin (Bray) Robbins. She married Kevin Smrz and he survives.
Surviving with her husband, Kevin are her parents, Kenneth and Robin Robbins of Bedford; a brother, Kenny Robbins of Bedford; a sister, Stephanie Robbins of Bedford; her paternal grandfather, Kenneth Robbins, Sr. and wife, Wanda of Paoli; a step-brother, Isaac Robbins of French Lick; aunts, Stacy Sparks and husband, Bruce, Leslie Lintz and husband, Rick and Lisa Bray; uncles, Matt Robbins, Josh White and Tom Bray.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Betty Robbins, Leroy Bray and Ruby Bray.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Saturday, March 8th in the Elmwood Chapel of Day & Carter Mortuary with Mark Fish officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, March 7th at Day & Carter Mortuary.
