Herman L. Butcher – East Oolitic
Herman L. Butcher, 87. Of 53 Farmer Street, East Oolitic passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 29,
2014 at St Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born August 19, 1926 in Monroe County he was the son of John and Decee (May) Butcher. He married Mildred M. Eagans in 1946 and she preceded him in death on December 15, 2011. He had worked for Indiana Limestone and was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII.
Survivors include one daughter: Rosalee (Sis) Chandler of Bedford; two sons: Herman (Butch) Butcher Jr. and
his wife Joann of Bloomington, and Wade Jones and his wife Jennifer of Mitchell; one sister: Bertha Thacker of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren: Steve, Tim and his wife Misty, Brandon and his wife Christy, Erica and her husband Weston, Christopher and Tyler Butcher, Andrew Jones, Matthew Jones, Joshua and Elise Jones, and Alex Flynn; seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three sisters: Josephine, Emily, and Lucille, and one son in law Arnold Chandler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Millard Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday, April 1st.
