Mary L. Plake – Bedford
Mary L. Plake, 95, of Bedford, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at her residence.
Born December 17, 1919 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Blackburn) Fountain. She married Floyd Plake on July 3, 1946 and he preceded her in death. She was a teacher at Shawswick School and Bedford North Lawrence High School. She was a member of the Leatherwood Christian Church and a long-time 4-H leader. She volunteered for Hoosier Christian Village, the American Red Cross, American Heart Assoc. and Southern Indiana Visually Impaired.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Beyers and husband, Jack, Shari Wisely and husband, Jerry, all of Bedford and Nyla Jean James and husband, Rob, of Kansas; seven grandchildren, Elisa Dunman and husband, Nathan, Laura Cummings and husband, Michael, L. J. Beyers and wife, Jama, Maleaha Evans and husband, Brandon, Lynessa Cummings and husband, John, Lyndee James, and Erin Paxton and husband, Caleb; four step-grandchildren, John Wisley and wife, Mindy, James Wisely and wife, Janice, Joshua Wisley and wife, Denise, Joseph Wisley and wife, Melissa; twenty great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Batman of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Mary Lou and Anah Caroline (in infancy); two brothers, Kenneth and Louis Fountain; two sisters, Lois Pentzer and Hazel Brown; a great grandchild, Levi Wisley.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 11th at the Leatherwood Christian Church with Sherman Thomas and Jerry Wisley officiating. Burial will follow in the Leatherwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 10th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Saturday, April 11th at the Leatherwood Christian Church.
The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Assoc.
