Robert Dale Stancombe – Bedford

Robert Dale Stancombe, 87, of Bedford, died at 8:05 am on Monday August 17, 2015 at I.U. Health Bedford.
Born April 19, 1928 in Bedford, he was the son of Clifford and Pearl (Brown) Stancombe. He married Betty M. Chenault on September 6, 1947 and she preceded him in death. He was an Ironworker out of Local 22 in Indianapolis for 55 years. He joined the Merchant Marines at the age of 16. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WW II in Germany. He was a member of the Leesville United Methodist Church and Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
Survivors include a daughter, Rita Waggoner and husband, Herb, of Bedford; a son, Tim Stancombe and wife, Susette, of Bedford; five grandchildren, Monte Terry, Marty Terry and wife, Michelle, Mike Terry and wife, Stacey, all of Bedford, Brittany Woolridge and husband, Jake, of Martinsville, J’Vonne Gibson and husband, Lee, of Huntsville, AL; two step-grandchildren, Darren Waggoner and wife, Mindy, Deidre Deckard and husband, Greg; eight great grandchildren, Brenna Terry-Nikirk, Layna Terry, Braden Terry, Chase Terry, Lola Woolridge,
Emma Woolridge, Cameron Gibson, Ainsley Gibson; eight step great grandchildren, Chris Edie, Jarod, Drew and Haley Deckard, Evan and Annie Waggoner, Levi Curren, Luke Preston; one great great step grandchild, Kipton Edie; a nephew, Dale Hall of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter Reva Jane Robinson; a step great grandson, V.J. Edie; two sisters, Freda Mauzy and Betty Hall; two brothers, Osbert and Buddy Lee Stancombe; two siblings (in infancy).
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 20th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Leesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 and from 10:00 am until the hour of service on Thursday, August 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
