Marie C. Jones – Loogootee
December 31, 1912 – December 25, 2015
Marie C. Jones, 102, passed away on Christmas Day at 11:55 a.m. at the Loogootee Nursing Center.
Born on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 1912 in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Emma (Jackie) Huffman. She married Walter O. Jones on February 23, 1935 and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1968.
Marie was a life-long member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Loogootee and the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary Aeries 2442 and Martin County Senior Citizens.
Left to cherish her memory are her family including her daughters Marlene E. and husband Ray Brown, of Atlanta, GA., Carolyn and husband Eddie Sorrells, of Shoals; granddaughters, Deanne Cooper and Paula Ackerman; grandsons, Alan Brown, Thomas Sorrells and Timothy Sorrells; 14 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister Wilma Fuhrman, of Washington and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter Nadine Thimling; grandson John Sorrells, sisters Louanna Rickard, Freida Palmer and two brothers, Fred Hoffman and Herbert Hoffman.
Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service at 2p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
