Ivan D. Smith, 84, formerly of Bedford, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Garden Villa, Bloomington
.
Born August 31, 1931, in Lawrence County, Indiana, he was the son of Carl and Gladys (May) Smith. He was of the Christian Faith. He was a former police officer in Mitchell, IN; worked many years at Carpenter Body Works, Mitchell; and retired from G.E., Bloomington. Ivan was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.
Surviving are one son, Anthony W. Smith, Indianapolis; daughters, Sharon Rose Felker, Linton and Jerri Ann Sprinkle, Paoli; ten grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, and Richard Felker, Crystal Dawn Smith, Amber Smith Loshier, Chelsie and Katrina Cooper, Jennifer, Keegan, and Josh; and numerous great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rebecca Gail Smith; sister, Marilyn; and brothers, Frank, Fred and Glenn.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, with Pastor Jeff Hudelson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Christian Church Cemetery, Bedford. Military Rites will be accorded at the grave by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33, Bedford. Friends may call 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
