Michael William “Duke” Mann – Mitchell

Michael William “Duke” Mann, 67, of Mitchell, passed away Thursday morning, June 2, 2016, at his residence.
Born August 4, 1948, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Charles William and Priscilla Elizabeth (White) Mann. He married Carolyn “Susi” Sheeks October 28, 1978.
Duke retired from Lehigh Cement Company after 37 ½ years, and had been a police officer for the City of Mitchell. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1967, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Duke was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, and had been awarded a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars, Bronze Star Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107, where he was a past commander. He had also been a coach and big supporter of Mitchell High School athletics.
Surviving: wife, Susi Mann, Mitchell; children, Melanie Ann (John) Shaff, Mitchell Brady L. (Julie) Mann, Fairbank, Iowa Laci C. (Tyler) Caudell, Bloomington; siblings, Connie (Nathan) Jenkins, Mitchell Denny Mann, Mitchell Julie (Joe) Fender, Bedford; grandchildren, Taylor Mann, Jayden Shaff, Jase Shaff, Michael Mann, Rhaegan Egli, Lilly Caudell, Abby Mann, and Emma Caudell.
His parents, and brother, Tony Mann, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, at the First Baptist Church with Reverend Reggie Clark, Reverend Dwight Dunbar, and Dan Terrell officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center, and from 10 a.m. until the service on Monday at the church.
