Bonnie R. George, 79, of Ellettsville, passed away at 9 am on Saturday at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born on December 10, 1936, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Julia Ruth (Owens) Brown and Raymond Brown. She was married to Jerry L. George for 57 years; He preceded her in death in 2012.
Bonnie was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Ellettsville for 52 years. She was a member of ABWA, Missionary Circle, she taught Bible school and Sunday school, and was a nursery volunteer, among various other activities. Bonnie graduated from Needmore High School in 1955 where she was both a cheerleader and majorette. She enjoyed going to the Needmore Class of ’55 monthly luncheons for many years. She retired from Indiana University where she was a housekeeper. Bonnie was a volunteer at Opportunity House and Richland Bean-Blossom Family Store where she was also an active board member.
Survivors include her daughter, Juli Ann Hillenburg, of Bloomington; one son, Mike George, of Bedford; son-in- law, Michael Hillenburg; three grandchildren, James Michael Hillenburg, Julia Marie Hillenburg, and Jon Mitchel Hillenburg; four great-grandchildren, Gavin James Hillenburg, Chandler Kane Hillenburg, Layla Paxlee Jane Hillenburg, Maverick Wayne Hillenburg; two brothers, Rod Brown of Bedford and Dick Brown of Bedford; sister-in-law, Jo Ann George; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, Timothy Ray George; one brother, Bill Brown; one sister Judie Armstrong.
In the absence of her best friend and sister Judie, Bonnie was Grandmother to Josie and Katie Fisher.
She was Mamaw Bonnie to all who knew her and you never left her house hungry.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Mark Villanova (Bonnie’s best buddy) officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
