(LOOGOOTEE) – The Daviess County Commissioners were notified that Southwest Medical, the long-time ambulance provider will not be renewing their contract with the county at the end of the year.
The Commissioners established an Ambulance Advisory Council to seek and examine bids from potential ambulance providers. On Tuesday, the Advisory Committee, County Councilmen Mike Sprinkle and Tony Duncheon said the committee unanimously recommended using Daviess Community Hospital as the ambulance provider beginning in 2020.
Ambulances would be based in Washington at the hospital and a second location in the northern part of the county, and another in the Cannelburg area. Those locations will be determined at a later date.
After a lengthy discussion, the commissioners voted 2-1 to approve Daviess Community Hospital as the future county ambulance provider.
Commissioners Tom McCracken and Nathan Gabhart voted for the proposal with Commissioner Michael Taylor opposing.
