Yorktown Man Dies After Truck Collides With Train In Muncie

(MUNCIE) – A Yorktown man was killed this morning when his pickup truck was struck by a train at the crossing at Batavia and Kilgore avenues in Muncie.

The accident was reported at 7:58 a.m.
Delaware County Coroner Rick Howell identified the victim as 34-year-old Graham S. Highley.
An autopsy was planned today at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
According to Muncie Police, Highley was traveling east on Kilgore Avenue when he tried to turn south onto Batavia Avenue crossing the railroad track.
His truck made contact with a crossing gate, which was down due to the approaching westbound train. While the gate did not break, the truck continued to move southbound, onto the tracks in front of the oncoming train.
After the impact, the train pushed the damaged truck several yards west of the crossing.
