(LAWRANCEPORT) – A Mitchell man has died after a tractor he was working on fell on him Wednesday.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers received a 911 call at 5:09 p.m. reporting a heavy object had fallen on a man at 2035 Lawrenceport Road.
When deputies and first responders from Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department arrived they discovered Russell Dean Smith trapped under the rear tire of an International farm tractor.
“The tractor was raised and the victim removed and transported by AMR Ambulance to IU Health Bedford where he succumbed to his injuries,” says Chief Deputy Aaron Shoults. “While working on the tractor a jack, or jacks gave way trapping him under the tractor tire.”
