(SEYMOUR) – A Seymour man was arrested after he allegedly fired a handgun and fled from police.
Seymour Police arrested 30-year-old Christopher Blum, on charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Officers were called to Fountain Drive and 10th Street at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after police were told that Blum had taken his girlfriend’s 2000 Ford Windstar without permission on Monday and had not returned the vehicle.
The caller told police Blum was in the vehicle in the area and was intoxicated and had a handgun.
According to Police Chief Bill Abbott, when officers arrived, they found Blum, who got out of the vehicle and ran.
Officers saw Blum reach for the weapon which was at his waist multiple times as he was running. Police found him in the Von Fange Ditch behind duplexes along County Road 760 East.
Police say Blum had the gun in his hand and fired one shot into the ground. He then threw the weapon into the ditch and took off running again.
Other Seymour officers confronted Blum near a duplex and told him to stop, and that is when he charged at the officers. He was stopped and arrested.
He is being held in the Jackson County Jail without bond.
