(MITCHELL) – The Friends of Spring Mill State Park — along with friends groups from four other Indiana state parks — invite motorcycle riders to participate in a motorcycle ride Saturday, June 29 to tour southeastern Indiana state parks.
The Friends of Spring Mill State Park partnered with Lawrence County Tourism and four other friends groups to sponsor the second annual CRISP (Charity Ride for Indiana State Parks) motorcycle ride June 29.
Friends President Teena Ligman said the ride did not include Spring Mill last year.
“We’re pleased they wanted to include Spring Mill in this year’s motorcycle ride, and, of course, think the value added by including Spring Mill State Park will enhance the experience of the 2019 ride,” said Ligman.
Riders select one of three routes to visit different state parks. Spring Mill is part of route one. Park entrance fees are included in the cost of the ride.
All groups start at Hardy Lake where riders receive an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7-10 a.m. and see the raptors that are rehabilitated there. Everyone receives a goody bag and then selects a route.
Those who choose route one head to Charlestown State Park where riders take a ride back in time and visit one of southern Indiana’s 1920s historic hot spots along the Ohio River: Rose Island Amusement Park.
Riders cross Fourteen Mile Creek by way of the historic Portersville Bridge, and Friends members will explain the history of Rose Island.
From there, the group will ride to Spring Mill. At Spring Mill, riders will check out the Grissom Memorial, the Pioneer Village and have a catered, pulled pork lunch in the refurbished Red Cross Cabin.
Routes two and three take riders to Versailles or Clifty Falls. All profits from the ride will be used by the Friends groups to benefit programs at state parks. To register for the ride, go to http://indianastateparksride.org.
