(BEDFORD) – As part of its continuing efforts to drive economic development and investment in Indiana, AT&T today announced that the East Gate Business and Technology Center in Bedford has been certified as being AT&T Fiber Ready.
“We’re investing in high-speed internet in urban and rural areas across Indiana using the latest wired and wireless technologies, and we are proud to highlight this center as one of many places in the Hoosier state where AT&T’s fiber infrastructure is in place and ready to help local businesses drive job creation,” said Bill Soards, president of AT&T Indiana.
“Positive, pro-business policies embraced by Indiana’s state and local elected officials continue to make our state a great place to invest,” Soards added. “And, I’d like to point out that our AT&T Indiana employees work tirelessly to deploy this fiber and other infrastructure that delivers high-speed internet access. Their dedication, combined with nearly $1.2 billion in AT&T investment over the last 3 years alone, enable Hoosiers to connect and innovate.”
In today’s world, connectivity is vital to businesses of every type. There’s no such thing as a “low-tech” venture anymore, so economic development leaders must be able to tout the presence of high-speed internet connectivity.
“You can’t overstate the importance of having a strong technology infrastructure in place when it comes to growing our economy,” said Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis. “I appreciate that AT&T is helping us shine the spotlight on the availability of this high-speed communications service. It’s exciting for both our city and East Gate.”
“This AT&T Fiber Ready certification helps send an important message to both entrepreneurs and longtime business owners – that Bedford has the necessary infrastructure for the modern economy,” said Lawrence County Economic Growth Council Executive Director Shance Sizemore. “It’s a valuable tool that gives the community a competitive advantage when talking with companies.”
East Gate Business and Technology Center is a 36-acre shovel ready industrial site. Developers are interested in bringing defense- or manufacturing-related jobs to the region via the site.
“AT&T’s Fiber Ready collaboration fills in a key piece of our development framework,” said The Vision Group Property Development, LLC’s Doug Kellams. “Effective relationships like this are essential to our growth efforts.”
