NORTH VERNON – Bedford North Lawrence won its first battle with Hoosier Hills Conference competition, clipping Jennings County 3-2 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.
The Stars (3-2) won the lower singles to clip the Panthers.
Cameron Gratzer edged Justin Ramey 6-4, 6-2 at No.2, while Konley Woodward conquered Gage Gasper 6-1, 6-4 at No.3.
“Everyone played well, but not all won, which is encouraging,” BNL coach Donnie Thomas said. “Cameron started slow, but stayed strong and kept his head on the game. He had good angled volleys for put-aways.”
BNL also prevailed at No.1 doubles as Cade Provo and Wyatt Scherschel stopped Joe Kelley and Jacob Vogel 6-0, 6-4.
Jennings took No.1 singles as Wyatt St. John fought past Adam Tlustek 6-4, 6-3, and the Panthers won a three-set battle at No.2 doubles as Owen Law and Alex Leach topped Graham Turner and Steven Graham 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
The Stars will visit Brown County on Thursday.
