(BLOOMINGTON) – The City of Bloomington Commission on the Status of Children and Youth is seeking nominations for the 2019 SWAGGER (Students Who Act Generously, Grow, and Earn Respect) Awards.
These awards recognize and celebrate personal growth, generosity, and the development of respect. Successful nominees are students who show commitment to certain causes or display actions that have improved their lives and/or the lives of others around them.
Educators, clergy, friends, neighbors, relatives, and others are encouraged to nominate a student who lives or attends school within the Monroe County Community School Corporation district.
Nominations for the 2019 SWAGGER Awards are being through October 4 for children and youth in the four following age categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12. Nomination forms are available online or in the Community and Family Resources Department at City Hall (401 N. Morton, Suite 260), Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
“Bloomington’s young people are smart, brave, kind, and engaged,” said Mayor John Hamilton. “The SWAGGER Awards reward them for going out of their way to care for those who are overlooked, to support the underserved, and to speak truth to power. Please take some time to nominate an exceptional young person you know. These are the folks who will see to it that Bloomington, and our world, continue thriving into the future.”
All nominees and their families are invited to attend a program at City Hall on Thursday, November 7 to recognize SWAGGER Award winners and report on the progress of additional youth initiatives, including the Teen Round Table and the Youth Participatory Budgeting (YPB) project. The award-winning proposal generated through the YPB process, a pilot program giving young people the opportunity to allocate a portion of city resources, will be announced during the program.
