(BEDFORD) – Bedford North Lawrence recorded a pair of impressive wins on Saturday, rolling past Clarksville and Trinity Lutheran during boys high school tennis action on the asphalt courts at BNL.
The Stars (5-5) topped the Generals 4-1 before blanking Trinity Lutheran 5-0 in the second half of the doubleheader.
BNL did some lineup tinkering but still swept the doubles against Clarksville. Wyatt Scherschel and Konley Woodward teamed to tackle Aiden Craig and Terry Morgan 6-4, 6-0 at No.1, while Cameron Gratzer and Steven Graham rolled Caleb Cummings and Jalen Reyer 6-2, 6-3 at No.2.
“I wanted to see what the sophomores could do together,” BNL coach Donnie Thomas said. “We’re still figuring things out. Konley moves well and makes up for mistakes he makes. He gets people to talk. He’s a good leader out there.”
BNL’s Adam Tlustek edged Dakota Capps 6-4, 7-5 at No.2 singles while Graham Turner conquered Ethan Neal 6-1, 6-4 at No.3.
“Clarksville gave us a good match,” Thomas said. “They’re a young team but they gave us a battle on every court. It’s good to play matches like that.”
BNL didn’t drop a set against the Cougars. Cade Provo set the tone with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Jace Crockett at No.1 singles, Tlustek decked Noah Voelker 6-4, 6-1 at No.2, and Turner cruised past Ryan Korman 6-0, 6-4 at No.3.
Scherschel and Gratzer combined for a 6-2, 6-2 win over Cameron Gruenwald and Jack VonDielingen at No.1 doubles, while Graham and Woodward disposed of Nathan Voelker and Luke Pollert 6-1, 6-4 at No.2.
The Stars will host North Daviess on Monday.
