(COLUMBUS) – Columbus East’s Eric Stiles scored twice as the Olympians conquered Bedford North Lawrence 3-0 during boys high school soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.
Stiles struck with 14 minutes left in the first half to give East a 1-0 advantage at intermission. He added another 10 minutes into the second stanza, and Kevin Sanchez followed with an insurance goal two minutes later.
East owned a 22-3 edge in shots.
“That would explain it,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “It was a matter of wearing us down. We have to dig deep, and we had a few opportunities to get even, but we couldn’t counter.
“Whatever happens, you go to the whistle. We can’t give up that early goal in the second half. That was the difference.”
East’s Zach Roberts posted the shutout in goal and tied the program record for career shutouts.
The Stars (4-4-1 overall, 0-2-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) will host Jennings County on Thursday.
