(BEDFORD) – Two Mitchell teens were injured after police say the driver took her eyes off the roadway Sunday morning.
According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, 16-year-old Olivia Williams was traveling north on Butterfly Lane just before 10 a.m. when she took her eyes off the roadway to reach for a phone cord.
When she looked back up, she thought there was another vehicle approaching. She then swerved the steering wheel of the 2003 Honda Accord she was operating.
The car went off the west side of the road, colliding with a utility pole and tree. The impact broke the tree at the base and it landed on top of the car.
Police say there was no other vehicle involved in the incident.
Williams suffered an injury to her wrist and knee. She was treated at the scene and released to her parents.
The front seat female passenger was not injured.
The backseat passenger, 15-year-old Trenidy Dattilo, of Mitchell, suffered an abrasion on her leg and complained of head and hip pain. She too was treated at the scene and released to her parents.
