City of Bloomington’s Frank Southern Ice Arena Opens Friday

(BLOOMINGTON) – The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department’s Frank Southern Ice Arena, 2100 S. Henderson St., officially opens for the 2019-20 ice season Oct. 11.

According to ice arena manager Dee Tuttle, Bloomington Blades youth travel hockey teams, as well as the Indiana University men’s hockey team, have held hockey practices at the ice arena, known locally as “The Frank,” since late September.

General admission public skating takes place daily during scheduled times: Monday through Friday from noon-2:30 p.m.; Fridays from 7-9 p.m.; Saturdays from 1:30-3 p.m., 7-9 p.m. (Lunar Skating), and 9:15-11 p.m. (Night Owl Skating); and Sundays from 3-5 p.m. 

Admission is $6 per person, plus $3 for skate rental. Ages five years and younger are admitted free.

The first session of the ice arena’s “Skating School” ice skating lessons begins Oct. 17. Free open house sessions, scheduled Oct. 10 from 5:30-7 p.m. and Oct. 12 from 10:30 a.m.-noon, are staffed by skate instructors who evaluate skating skills and assist with class placement.
